Job overview
There is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Faecal Immunochemical Testing (FIT) service team. The FIT service is a newly implemented test within the department for detecting faecal occult blood in symptomatic patients, and those from secondary care locations within the trust which is important for the early detection of colorectal cancers - reducing the need for unnecessary colonoscopies.
Mid Essex Hospital Services Trust is the hub for faecal immunochemical testing (FIT) within Mid and South Essex. This involves overviewing the handling of patient samples from their receipt in the laboratory, to the completion of sample analysis. This role will be to oversee the daily operation of this test and to troubleshoot any aspect of the process to ensure that results are produced accurately and in a time-effective manner to prevent turnaround breaches. This role requires communication with all hospitals within the Mid and South Essex Trust (secondary care patients) as well as most GP practices within those regions.
We are passionate about supporting all those who work in our department to fulfill their ambitions and achieve safe, high quality standards of care. We are committed to equal opportunities and improving the working lives of our staff.

Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for overseeing the receipt and analysis of EQA samples (External Quality Assurance) which the laboratory has enrolled in, and ensuring that the results have been given to the Point of Care/Quality departments within the deadline. This scheme is important for ensuring that all patient results generated are accurate and consistent with other laboratories.
This role will also include monitoring of the turnaround time of referred samples, and supporting clinical team with referral work.
