Job overview
Here is an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a band 6 - Interventional radiology nurse.
You will be working as an integral part of the MSE Interventional Radiology team, based at Broomfield Hospital, you will use your existing skills to care for patients undergoing a variety of interventional procedures, whilst scrubbing, circulating, and acting as the patient nurse in our Interventional Radiology Theatre/Suite. In addition to this, you will also be expected to rotate into the day case recovery unit and offer high standards of care to our patients both pre and post procedure.
Working in an ever-changing environment will require you to use your excellent communication, time management and problem-solving skills to the full. You need to be physically fit to cope with wearing radiation protection equipment and standing for long periods of time, but this rewarding role offers the chance to participate in cutting edge surgical techniques that improve the lives and outcomes of our patients.
Applicants who do not have interventional radiology experience are also welcomed to apply, as we can support you in proving necessary training. You will be hired at band 5 until the training period and later moved to band 6 on successful completion of your training.

Main duties of the job
Undertake all necessary training and competency assessment to develop the skills to provide a high standard of Interventional Radiology nursing care that meets the patient's needs, within the agreed policies of the Radiology Department and Trust.
Use your previous nursing knowledge and skills for the clinical observation and recording of data relating to patients across all areas serviced by the Imaging and Interventional Radiology Team, ensuring that accurate records of patient care and progress are maintained and reviewed
Make appropriate and safe decisions relating to patient needs and communicate this effectively to other members of the multi-disciplinary team caring for the patient and their family where necessary.
Communicate regularly with staff, patients and their relatives, to promote and maintain understanding, progress and co-operation with treatment.
Initiate and participate in departmental developments and take a proactive role in the implementation of procedures and policies to improve patient care.
To be competent in the administration of i.v and oral drugs used in Interventional Radiology and to undertake relevant drug administration training to comply with national and MSE Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust guidelines.
Maintain and protect the safety and confidentiality of patients and families.
To work flexibly in accordance with the changing needs of the service to include out of hours working and on call

Once competent to participate in the delivery of all Interventional Radiology and Imaging procedures that require nursing support.
Maintain and protect the safety and confidentiality of patients and families.
Once fully trained to actively support the Senior Sister in the implementation of advanced nursing practice within the Imaging department
To work flexibly in accordance with the changing needs of the service to include out of hours working and on call
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree or Diploma of Higher Education in Adult Nursing
- Level 2 functional assessment or equivalent in English and Maths
Desirable criteria
- Post Registration Study
Experience
Essential criteria
- 2 years post registration experience in an acute hospital
Desirable criteria
- Interventional Radiology, Cath Lab or Endoscopy experience
