Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity, following investment, to grow our General Medicine Department team, to offer enthusiastic, dynamic and friendly colleagues a chance to help develop new models of care and services that support all patients attending the hospital and within the local community in various specialties.
These roles will undertake general outpatient clinics, perform inpatient in-reach and liaison work on the wards, contribute to advice and guidance and triaging of referrals from the primary care sector, as well as supervising the Speciality Registrars and Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Main duties of the job
Your role will be to provide expert opinion on and treatment of our patients, sharing in the leadership of the multidisciplinary team and be dedicated to developing sustainable departments that delivers high quality care to all our patients whilst allowing for great work life balance.
You will be expected to work alongside experienced dynamic colleagues with a variety of specialist interests, to develop clinical services, local pathways and to teach Primary Care and Junior Medical colleagues through a mixture of case-based review and formal teaching activity.
As one of our valued Consultants, you will engage with and contribute to Safety and National Clinical Data Collection systems as required, helping and supporting the promotion of a friendly, team based working environment in line with Trust Values and undertake managerial and budgetary responsibilities as required with mandatory involvement in appraisals on an annual basis.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or Equivalent
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) at time of interview
- Evidence of completion of specialist training or equivalent
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- MD/PhD or other higher degree
- Postgraduate diploma
- ALS
Experience
Essential criteria
- Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems.
- Experience of working independently as a senior clinician
- Experience of teaching trainees / multidisciplinary staff
- Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience as a Medical Consultant (locum or substantive)
- A special interest within Medicine complementing those currently in the directorate.
