Job overview

Here is an opportunity for you to join our pathology team as a Senior Anatomical Pathology Technician. 

You will undertake daily administration tasks and organisation of the work, including all aspects of body handling, receipt and release, post mortem examinations, and viewings. You will  participate in the development, review and completion of audits, risk assessments and competencies.  Particular attention must be paid to mortuary hygiene, and health and safety responsibilities. To supervise mortuary staff, porters and other staff entering the mortuary to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.

You  will be expected to participate in the on call rota, and will be expected to work across sites when capacity and demand requires

Main duties of the job

Body handling; receipt and release; post mortem examinations; viewings; audits, risk assessments; supervision of junior staff; porters training; facilitating educational visits from police, ambulance and nursing staff; ensuring compliance with regulatory standards; liaising with bereavement and medical examiner staff.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RSPH Certificate & Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or Level 3 / Level 4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology
Desirable criteria
  • Two or more years experience post Level 4 qualification
  • Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD)

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the HTA and regulatory standards
  • A comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
  • A broad knowledge of Health & Safety issues and relative legislation
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of advanced evisceration techniques
  • Evidence of participation in Forensic post mortems

Communication Skills

Essential criteria
  • Computer literate with accuracy in data input and use of NHS ssytems
  • Evidence of interpersonal skills when dealing with bereaved relatives and discussing sensitive matters with compassion.
  • Able to communicate effectively and organise own workload
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of Advanced Communication Skills training
