Broomfield Hospital Pharmacy Department is currently looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward-thinking Dispensary Assistant to join their busy department.
The post holder will assist in the provision of Pharmacy Services to all wards and departments within the Trust, and any external Trusts where appropriate.
Based in the busy town of Chelmsford, Mid Essex Hospital is part of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust and the pharmacy department now has around 300 staff working across 3 sites.
Although only recently merged, the pharmacy departments across the three sites have been working together under one Chief Pharmacist for a number of years. During this time we have developed standardised systems and re-designed new and on-going services supporting the wider organisation’s clinical configuration changes
Main duties of the job
This is an assistant post within the dispensary services working as part of the dispensary team to supply an effective pharmacy service in both the in-patient dispensary and out-patient dispensary. You will provide a reception service for the Inpatient dispensary ensuring all prescriptions are booked in correctly using our prescription tracking system. You will also be undertaking general routine tasks within the role and provide cover to the outpatient dispensary when required
You will not need pharmacy experience as full training will be provided

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

. To provide a reception service for the inpatient dispensary and provide cover to the out-patient dispensary when needed.
. Working with the inpatient and outpatients tracking systems ensuring all requests are validated, booked in, tracked and booked out correctly.
. Undertake routine administrative and clerical tasks within the dispensary as required.
. To carry out general housekeeping duties.
. Deal with wide variety of enquiries efficiently and appropriately from staff and patients.
. Ensure appropriate replenishment of dispensary consumables are carried out on a weekly basis or whenever required.
. Deal with routine enquires and collections in the inpatient dispensary from various trust staff that comes to the inpatient dispensary
. Deal with telephone enquiries efficiently and appropriately from staff and patients, resolve or refer when necessary
. Deal with assisting the outpatient’s department pneumatic tube system
. Ensure all filing and paperwork is up to date and correct on a daily and monthly basis
. Ensure the inpatient pneumatic tube system is attended and actioned at all times
. Ensure stock is adequately maintained within the inpatient dispensary to ensure efficient use of stock.
. Ensures that prescription charges are collected, or declaration of exemption forms are fully completed when working in outpatients department
. Deal with routine enquiries about the progress of prescriptions in outpatient’s department
. Undertake all till transactions when working in outpatient’s department
. To ensure mandatory training is kept up to date
. Follow departmental standard operating procedures

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
