Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide a permanent post on a busy  Surgical ward. Our ward has 32 beds and undertakes a wide variety of  surgical procedures. We are looking for a hard working, flexible person to work within our friendly and supportive team.

Successful applicants will work within their teams to provide a high quality, safe care environment, for patients with a range of conditions as well as elective and emergency surgery.

Main duties of the job

The Ward Manager focuses on the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families and carers.

Nurses in this role will:

  • Have continuous responsibility for a defined clinical area;
  • Be the key contact member for the multidisciplinary team
  • Provide professional leadership and line management for a team of nursing/midwifery and support staff;
  • Delegate work and supervise colleagues accordingly;
  • Assess patients, plan, implement and evaluate evidence based care;
  • Provide expert clinical advice;
  • Ensure patient pathways are optimally managed;
  • Manage budgets and resources efficiently and effectively;
  • Be responsible for the safety of the clinical environment;
  • Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical
  • Ensure his/her group of patients have a managed pathway and beds in the ward are optimally utilised, seeking expert support if required.
