Job overview

Our Theatre and Anaesthetics Department are looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Pain to join our Broomfield Hospital team on a permanent full time basis. 

You will work collaboratively with your fellow Consultants to provide a modern and comprehensive Anaesthetic, Pain and Perioperative Medicine service to our patients.

Main duties of the job

If successful, some of your duties will include:

  • Covering for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
  • Undertaking professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
  • Carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, both locally and nationally.
  • Participating in medical audit, and the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes. There is a monthly departmental directorate meeting that occurs on Audit Days that consultants and speciality doctors are expected to attend.
  • Liaising with medical staff in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other post-graduate activities of the hospital.
  • Taking part in the Royal College of Anaesthetists continuing medical education programme.

Essential criteria
  • GMC registered / MBBS or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems.
  • Application demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team
  • Work history or supporting information demonstrates experience of taking full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrable experience of supervising undergraduates, junior doctors and other staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience and training in major elective surgery.
