Job overview

Here is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a HIV Medicine Consultant

You will work with the Clinical Nurse Specialists to provide gold standard HIV care at the Broomfield clinic. You  will see complex patients within the clinic and provide clinical support to the CNS’s. You will also see inpatients and advise on relevant care pathways and  continue to forge relationships with the other clinics in the Trust  You  will work with the Nurse Consultant and lead CNS at Broomfield to continue to develop the service.

Main duties of the job

    

·       Running clinics, reviewing blood results, prescribing Antiretrovirals and other medications as appropriate.

·       Overseeing the care of all patients but particularly the more unwell and complex ones. Clinical Input and visits of Inpatients as necessary.

·       Continuing to build links with HMP Chelmsford and Wethersfield Immigration Centre 

·       Attend departmental and divisional meetings as required

·       Working flexibly/deputise during absence of colleagues

·       To keep legible and detailed records.

·       Joint care of pregnant women (with Obstetrics)

·       Hepatology MDT and joint care of Hepatitis B co-infected patients.

·       Satellite clinic at HMP Chelmsford every 2-3 months.

·       Overview of frailty, cardiovascular health, bone health, mental health, menopause need and other emerging issues for people living with HIV.

·       To communicate fully with patients, relatives, family doctors and other health and social service colleagues, (within the over-riding boundaries of confidentiality and respecting patient wishes).

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • On GMC Register
  • Specialist training
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the speciality
  • Able to lead/leadership experience
  • Thorough and broad training and experience in HIV
  • Able to teach and supervise
  • Knowledge and experience of research and audit principles and application

Other

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of ethical issues around HIV, equality and diversity
  • Able to travel between sites as needed
  • Excellent communication skills

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
