Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical PA post based in Colchester Hospital, ENT department.

We are looking for an efficient, conscientious, well-motivated, enthusiastic and experienced secretary, with the skills to provide dedicated clerical support to both the clinical and administrative teams to the ENT department. The post will be based in the administration office at the Primary Care Centre and offers the opportunity to join a well established, high achieving, committed team.

Main duties of the job

The key aspect of this role involves dealing with the public and professionals and hence you must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have proven IT experience.

The primary function of this role revolves around the provision of day-to-day medical secretarial support for two Consultants, however, it is essential to help and support all members of the team by having a flexible approach to both workload, additional tasks and working patterns. Flexibility and the ability to remain calm under pressure are key requirements for this role. Typing skills are essential.

Essential criteria
  • • Previous experience as a medical secretary or medical administrator
Desirable criteria
  • • NHS experience
  • • Experience within relevant work area
  • • Experience of working with members of the public
  • • Supervision/co-ordination of other team members

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • GCSE grade 5/C or equivalent in English and Maths
  • • NVQ level 3 in administration/secretarial or equivalent
  • • Audio typing qualification
  • • Word processing to RSA III or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • • AMSPAR Diploma or equivalent.
  • • Shorthand/speed typing

Knowledge
