We are looking to recruit a Night Shift Sterilisation and Decontamination Supervisor at Colchester Hospital. In this role you will join the departments’ group of team leaders looking after the busy, fast-moving Endoscopy Reprocessing and Sterile Services Department.

You will assist in providing a complete Decontamination service, including the reprocessing of flexible endoscopes. Previous experience in a decontamination service is desired. In-Job training will be provided by the current team leaders for a smooth transition.

Please note - This is a Night Shift position; Current hours are 2130 - 0700, 4 days a week 

There will be opportunities for you to develop your current skills and attend further training.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining and supervising a busy Endoscopy Reprocessing and Sterile Services team.

Your new role would be to communicate and supervise enquires from users, and other members of healthcare staff in a polite and helpful manner, seeking scientific advice from Senior Decontamination Supervisors where required.

To supervise, organise and allocate work and /or train less experienced/qualified staff. 

You will be expected to use knowledge and skills when making decisions with regard to non-conformances. 

You will assist the Decontamination Operational Manager by supervising, organising and allocating work to your team and training members of
staff.

To monitor stocks of raw materials as requested and to take appropriate action on any deficiencies, assist in the evaluation of new products. 

You will complete daily departmental checks, including consumable stock levels, complete shift handovers.

You will liaise with service users and service providers to help ensure a smooth running of the department, therefore effective verbal and written communication skills at all levels is a must.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Experience to NVQ3 through decontamination training and non-routine experience plus applied training to Foundation degree/diploma in medical device decontamination equivalent level

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in all sections of the decontamination department, sterile services department and endoscope reprocessing department
  • Experience of supervising less experienced/qualified staff
  • Experience using decontamination equipment
  • Can demonstrate the ability to work to strict standards of quality and safety

Skills

  • Able to work to given schedules and rotas.
  • Able to organise and manage their personal responsibilities, with referral to senior staff when required, in a timely and efficient manner.
