Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for Occupational Therapists to join our Integrated Therapy Team in North East Essex.

This vacancy will be part of a rotational programme, which currently includes the Stroke Unit, Surgical, Medical Wards, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Older Peoples wards and IRAS (Urgent Care team). 

The rotations include weekend working as part of their working pattern, currently 1 in 5.

Core working hours are 8:30 - 16:30, but some rotations require different shift patterns.

We would welcome applicants from qualified Occupational Therapists or Students nearing the end of their course. 

 

 

Main duties of the job

  • To plan and organise a designated caseload of patients and own professional activities under the management of a senior qualified therapist.
  • To work with patients and carers to identify therapy goals, using standardised and non standardised assessment tools to assess their skills deficits and occupational needs
  • In collaboration with the patient, to plan and implement a single or  programme of interventions using treatment techniques to meet the patient’s needs. 
  • To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment interventions to measure progress and ensure effectiveness
  • To apply understanding of effects and impact of illness and disability on patient’s abilities whilst providing advice and education regarding potential lifestyle changes / adaptations to their physical and social environment.
  • To ensure therapy goals are integral to the patient’s multidisciplinary care plan.
  • To use technical, physical and mental skills in the provision of patient interventions.
  • To work within your professional remit as stipulated by HCPC and RCOT

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To contribute to the supervision and appraisal of others as appropriate, including OT students.
  • To manage a caseload and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • To work as a part of an integrated therapy team to strive to achieve patient centred goals and discharge planning.

  • Dip COT/BSc Occupational therapy
  • State registration with HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Associated prior learning qualification
  • Membership of professional body / specialist Interest Group

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Wide range of fieldwork placements
  • Experience of functional assessment techniques and activity analysis
  • Experience of practice evaluation
  • Application of OT process
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
Desirable criteria
  • Prior work/voluntary experience (in associated field)
  • Specialist fieldwork placements
