Job overview
We have an opportunity for you to join to our team in providing a high quality and respected pharmacy technical service within ESNEFT until 31st March 2025. This post is full time, however we would accept part time up to 37.5 hours per week.
You will provide leadership and project management for both the Vaccination and Clinical Trials Services taking place within the Department of Pharmacy across ESNEFT hospital sites.
You will provide guidance and expertise to pharmacy and other colleagues undertaking activities to deliver vaccine programmes and clinical trials across ESNEFT.
You will ensure compliance with national recommendations for Vaccine Governance and Good Clinical Practice, Good Distribution Practice and Good Manufacturing Practice.
This is the ideal opportunity if you are looking to develop your knowledge and experience at a senior level within ESNEFT.
You will need good planning and organisational skills and must be able to demonstrate excellent communication.
Primarily based within the Pharmacy Department at Colchester Hospital however there will be cross-site activity to support Ipswich Hospital, as part of ESNEFT.
Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please ensure you have discussed this with your line manager.
Main duties of the job
To act as the Lead Pharmacist in Technical Services (Vaccination) for East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT), providing quality assurance support for technical service activities, giving oversight to the Senior Leadership team as well as taking a lead role in delivering vaccination services and ensuring compliance with the regulatory requirements and best practice. You will provide GDP, GMP and GCP support for pharmacy technical services, ensuring compliance with the regulatory requirements for all pharmaceutical licences held by the Trust.
You will deputise for and support the Chief Pharmacist in providing the professional leadership to vaccination programme ensuring: continuing safe service development, cost effective operation, the maintenance of the high standards commensurate with the licences and health and safety requirements, and an appropriate focus on governance, safety, risk management and service delivery for ESNEFT.
You will also lead the Pharmacy Clinical Trials service across both hospital sites and will be required to be a releasing officer for clinical trials named patients doses manufactured under section 10 exemption as well as named patients doses under the Trust’s MHRA (Specials) licence.

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of the GDP Guide and its importance to Distribution of Medicines.
- Good knowledge of all aspects of Pharmacy Stores and Distribution.
- Good knowledge of GMP and GCP.
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive hospital pharmacy experience inclusive of Pharmacy Technical Services.
- Demonstrated experience of multi-disciplinary working
- Handling of high risk medicines.
- Previous experience of educating and training other staff.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working within hospital services.
- Previous experience of working on quality systems or procedures.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GPhC Registered Pharmacist.
- Masters Degree plus Pre-registration training (or equivalent).
- Relevant postgraduate qualification (or working towards).
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification.
