Are you an enthusiastic pharmacist looking for a challenge in an acute hospital trust?
An opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Pharmacist to join the Trust’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Team within ESNEFT. Due to career progression, we have a fixed term or secondment opportunity for until 31st October 2025. This job will also suit a developmental role at Band 7 which would progress to Band 8a after achievement of all relevant competencies and practice gaps.
Based at Colchester hospital, you will spend approximately half of your time working on the Antimicrobial Stewardship agenda and the remaining half working at ward level within the clinical pharmacy service.
Our friendly pharmacy team are dedicated to nurturing, mentoring and developing our staff to reach their full potential. We provide pharmacy forums, tutorials and weekly ICS/ESNEFT delivered educational workshops. We support personal development plans, smart objective setting and opportunities for study.
ESNEFT is about to embark on a full site wide implementation of the EPIC electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing and administration and pharmacy stock control system replacement.
In addition to our fully automated dispensaries, we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and the Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (including a brand new Aseptic facility).

Support the delivery of clinical pharmacy services relating to anti-infective medicines management in accordance with the objectives set out by the Antimicrobial Stewardship Team.
Be the recognised specialist (and Colchester lead) for anti-infective medication.
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal and cost effective use of anti-infective medicines within divisions, with a specific focus on anti-infective treatment.
Ensure that all required medication safety and clinical governance issues are actioned and implemented in a timely manner; especially those relating to anti-infective related patients.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous extensive hospital experience inclusive of Clinical Pharmacy practice
- Demonstrated experience of multi-disciplinary working
- Handling of high risk medicines
- Previous experience of educating and training other staff
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working with specialist antimicrobial patients
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Medicines Management
- Clinical knowledge of issues relevant to patients receiving antimicrobials gained through training & experience
- Good all-round clinical knowledge in other areas and practical skills
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of clinical/financial issues relating to cross site and multisector practice
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GPhC registered
- Masters Degree in Pharmacy plus Pre-registration training or equivalent
- Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice or clinical equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Non-Medical Prescribing qualification
