Job overview

We are currently recruiting to our safeguarding team and are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative individual with experience of safeguarding children. Our team offers a Mon-Fri 9-5pm service).

You will be a highly visible experienced health practitioner, providing specialist knowledge, advice and clinical expertise to all staff in the Trust and the community in all areas of Safeguarding Children/ Child Protection.

The Safeguarding Specialist Practitioner will be a member of the ESNEFT safeguarding team and will enable a holistic approach to the care of the most vulnerable children; young people and their families in delivering safeguarding advice, support, training and supervision.

You will provide the professional interface between hospital and community services with respect to the welfare of children, providing a robust and safe communication system for the effective and timely flow of information between hospital and community health professionals and other agencies as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

You will be reviewing and identifying vulnerable children and families who have accessed ESNEFT health care services to ensure the relevant health and social care professionals are informed in a timely manner.

You will also be assisting in the co-ordination and contribution to inter-professional training in safeguarding children across the Trust and will be expected to deputise for the Named Nurse as required. We therefore welcome applications from individuals who have experiential knowledge of safeguarding.

The safeguarding children team have a robust audit programme which the post holder will participate in. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To develop and foster effective working relationships and liaison mechanisms with acute and community health staff and partner organisations.
  • To innovate new and effective ways of improving communication pathways
  • To maintain and develop own clinical expertise and follow East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust Safeguarding Procedures in respect of the safety and welfare of children; young people; families & the unborn.
  • To inform the Named Nurse Safeguarding Children/ Named Midwife where there are Safeguarding concerns.
  • To actively participate in regular clinical and safeguarding supervision in line with the Organisations supervision policy.
  • Actively participate in the Safeguarding Teams audit programme
  • To participate in internal and external Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews/Domestic Homicide Reviews with the support of the named Nurse Safeguarding Children/Head of Safeguarding Families.
  • Completion of statutory requests for information such as Section 17/47/PREVENT requests.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • ENB 997 / ENB 998 or ENB Mentorship programme
  • Relevant Safeguarding Children post basic training or equivalent experience
  • Degree or willingness to undertake degree level study in relevant area.
Desirable criteria
  • Registered Children’s Nurse or Specialist Community Public Health Nurse
  • Relevant teaching qualification or working towards.
  • Educated to 1st level degree.
  • Teaching experience and qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven post registration experience
  • Experience in working with others as part of a team.
  • Experience in of audit and monitoring processes
Desirable criteria
  • Experience (paediatric) of nursing in an acute hospital environment

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience in inter-agency work.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to safeguarding children.
  • Evidence of on-going professional learning
  • Knowledge of children’s services
  • Knowledge of evidence based safeguarding children practice.
  • Knowledge of legal framework for information sharing
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
