Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Therapy Assistant Practitioner to join the Integrated Rapid Assessment Service based at Colchester Hospital.

We are looking for a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic individual to join our team. You will have a knowledge of occupational therapy and physiotherapy roles in an acute setting.

You should have excellent community skills, enjoy working with a variety of service users of different age groups, and have good self management skills. Ideally you will have experience of working in a variety of clinical settings.

We are an integrated therapy team with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists and Nurses that work extremely closely to provide excellent and rapid assessments to aid with discharge planning for our clients. 

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist, you will be expected:

  • To manage a designated caseload of patients.
  • To provide specific skilled support to the registered therapists in providing technical therapy interventions to patients in a variety of settings.
  • To use an evidence-based, person-centred approach in the planning, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of agreed interventions following guidelines and protocols to promote the functional fitness of patients and to aid discharge from hospital in a way that is consistent with their abilities, preferences, and cultural beliefs.
  • To be able to work flexibly over a 7 day service.
  • To communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients using skills of persuasion, motivation, explanation, negotiation, and empathy.  There may be barriers to understanding such as hearing loss, speech difficulty, anxiety, fear, and depression.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE or Equivalent Qualification in Core Subjects such as English and Maths
  • NVQ/HNVQ (in healthcare) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • HND/ Foundation Degree in healthcare/exercise therapy
  • Assistant member of appropriate professional body

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within healthcare or rehabilitation setting
  • Working in teams
  • Experience of following rehabilitation treatment plans
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working unsupervised

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Competent IT skills
  • • Ability to cope with patients suffering from chronic pain who may have high levels of anxiety, depression and may be aggressive
