Job overview

We are looking for two motivated, enthusiastic individuals to work within Essex Wellbeing Services delivering advice and support to those wanting to stop smoking. One position will be working within the Social Housing sector and one will be working with Mental Health inpatients throughout Essex. This will involve working with other agencies and services to support service users to stop smoking.

We promote a range of different methods of supporting people which includes virtual interventions, telephone support and social media as well as face to face work.

The postholder will be based at home but is required to travel to the areas covered by the locality team in North, West, Mid and South Essex.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be required to work as part of a locality-based team providing support and intervention to adults looking to make changes to their health and wellbeing.

You will work with the local community and develop a good knowledge of services and organisations within the community who can also support with health and wellbeing.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To engage with individuals in the community and improve their lifestyle and self-management capacity by activating their assets:
    • Apply behaviour change techniques to support complex individual lifestyle changes, e.g goals setting, confidence building
    • Provide evidence based about a key public health agenda
    • Social prescribe to other service that will enhance and sustain the outcome of the interventions.
  • To manage own workload efficiently
  • Contribute to and work as part of a team.
  • To support existing services and develop new local approaches to meet the needs of client in the target group
  • To undertake basic clinical interventions such as blood pressure
  • Provide support to volunteers and other community partners where directed
  • Participate in MDTs with partner organisations
  • Undertake any other delegated work
  • Any other function commensurate with competencies and job role

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 Health and Social care Or Equivalent training and experience in health and/or other relevant areas
Desirable criteria
  • Health Coaching
  • Level 2 Stop Smoking
  • Making Every Contact Count training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of working in public health and in the community
  • Proven track record of engagement with people on both an individual level and in group settings
  • Experience of multi-agency working

  • Car owner/driver or ability to travel independently
  • Flexible working within the operating hours of the service, which will include evenings and weekends
