Service innovation & Trust investment has created new pharmacist roles at the Trust to better enhance service delivery. You will be key in providing cross-site senior leadership & delivery of the clinical pharmacy service to the relevant division whilst taking on the responsibility of ensuring wider support to the Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team in the delivery & development of the clinical pharmacy service.
This post relates to the Surgical Division & is based at Colchester Hospital due to the presence of the Trust’s vascular service & the imminent opening of the brand new Elective Orthopaedic Centre. You will have the opportunity to use your skills & clinical expertise to model this new job role in accordance with the departmental vision.
ESNEFT is about to embark on the implementation of the EPIC electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing & administration as well as pharmacy stock control system. It is envisaged that this new role will play a key supportive role within this process moving forward.
In addition to our fully automated dispensaries we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites & the Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (including a brand new Aseptic facility).
This post can be offered as a 12 months secondment and will be based at Colchester Hospital however you will be expected to work cross-site.
Main duties of the job

Be the principal pharmacist for the Surgical Division, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal and cost effective use of medicines across the division; minimising drug wastage and managing the use of high-cost medicines accordingly.
Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to the Division in line with the Trust and pharmacy Key Performance Indicators, agreed clinical standards and medicines legislation.
Provide ongoing clinical support, leadership and guidance to pharmacy colleagues contributing to the clinical pharmacy service within the Surgical Division.
Develop clinical pharmacy input into the Surgical Division and provide departmental leadership into this speciality. This will involve close collaboration with colleagues from the each hospital site to ensure cross-site consistency of practice within the speciality.
Take responsibility for delivering, managing and assisting in the development of clinical pharmacy services.
Be integral in the development of, and maintenance of, the digital medicines agenda within Pharmacy.
Deputise for the Assistant Chief Pharmacist at the Colchester hospital site.

Person specification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive post-registration experience with substantial hospital pharmacy experience
- Variety of Clinical Pharmacy Experience
- Management of staff and management of a pharmacy section/team
- Experience of undertaking medicines and service audit
- Experience of providing and evaluating pharmacy education and training
- Experience of implementing and writing/reviewing guidelines, PGDs, procedures, business cases and reports
Desirable criteria
- Work at specialist or division level with responsibility for pharmacy services to this area
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Vocational master’s degree in Pharmacy or equivalent + examined pre-registration training
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Evidence of and commitment to continuing professional development
- Postgraduate qualification in pharmacy practice
Desirable criteria
- Prescriber status
- Management / leadership course
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- Risk management training
