Job overview

Would you like to work  in a fast paced environment with every speciality patient needing care? We are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated individual to the role of Junior Sister/Charge Nurse for the short stay unit .This role is part of our Urgent Care  Division.

We are looking for experienced nurses to join our team. You will have strong communication and leadership skills with an eagerness to advance  acute nursing practice. You will support the unit manager in this busy environment that receives patients from the Adult Assessment unit and  Emergency department .  You will be responsible for being the nurse in charge of the shift monitoring patient flow through the unit. 

The ideal candidates will be dynamic and forward thinking with a progressive approach to enhancing patient care and safety within urgent, emergency and acute care services. In addition to excellent clinical skills a good working knowledge of care pathways and the patient journey is required, as is priority focus on communication, safe discharge planning and safe patient transfer.

Rotation to the Adult Assessment Area  is also part of this role. This area operates a 24 hour or less length of stay and is working towards receiving referred to speciality patients direct from the ED.  

Main duties of the job

  • Work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines to wokr as a named nurse (or key worker) for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for:
  • Protect and supporting the health of individual patients and clients
  • Assess care and health education needs
  • Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient
  • To be designated to take charge of the ward/department regularly in the absence of the person holding continuing responsibility
  • To work in accordance with the Princess Alexandra Hospitals  Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and Core Standards 
  • To maintain effective communication
  • To provide a high standard of holistic patient-centered care
  • To act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor to student nurses and others and participate in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate
