Job overview

Our non-executive directors and associate non-executive directors bring a breadth of experience and skills to the organisation that supports and informs our decision-making.

We are looking for an associate non-executive director who has senior or Board level clinical experience gained in either a medical, nursing or allied discipline with a strong service delivery background.

PAHT is an ambitious acute hospital, with the vision of providing outstanding healthcare to our local population every time, and in partnership with our health and care partners in West Essex and East Hertfordshire.

Main duties of the job

You will need to have a genuine commitment to patients and the promotion of excellent health care services.  You will have senior level clinical experience gained in either a medical, nursing or allied discipline with a strong service delivery background.

As a member of the Quality and Safety Committee, you will need to constructively challenge, influence and support the executive team to ensure the organisation fulfils its responsibilities to patients, carers and the local community ensuring that the patient is central to Trust decision making. Knowledge and experience of patient safety and quality matters, legislation and multi-agency working is essential.  You will also become a member of the Audit Committee.

The Trust is taking positive action to increase the diversity of their board members and reflect the diverse population they serve. We value and promote diversity and are committed to equality of opportunity for all and appointments are made on merit. We believe that the best boards are those that reflect the communities they serve.

Working for our organisation

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford, and St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping.

We employ 4000 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

It is an exciting time for us. We have a bold ten-year strategy, PAHT 2030, to support the delivery of our ambitions, at the heart of which is the once in a lifetime opportunity to build a brand-new Princess Alexandra Hospital as part of the Government’s new hospital programme. Alongside the planning and preparations for the new hospital is the implementation of our specialty specific clinical strategies and our new models of care. In-line with the goals and objectives of the NHS Long Term Plan we look forward to working closely with our local health and care partners.
