Job overview

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly team in the Alexandra Day Stay Unit.

This busy unit supports patients undergoing day case surgery and procedures. We work collaboratively with associated members of the perioperative team along with senior nursing personnel, our patient safety and quality and operations teams.

We are looking to recruit a dedicated and caring registered nurse at a band 6 level who will put the patient at the heart of their working day and strive to deliver excellence in care to our patients and their families

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic band 6 surgical nurse, able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and leadership abilities. We would expect you to be able to provide support to junior team members and mentor others, manage your own workload and deputise for your line manager whilst offering support to the whole team.

As part of the team, you will be supporting the ward manager in the admission of the patients to the ward and delivering care pre and post-operatively, including enhancing patients’ recovery and speeding up the discharge process. Together with the ward manager, you will be responsible for managing patients flow and working together with other members of the team such as the surgical doctors, physiotherapists, and the specialist nurses.

This role will give you a great opportunity to develop and learn how to manage a consolidated nursing team, supporting the ward manager in the management of rosters, sickness, training and clinical auditing.

We are looking for a dynamic and flexible individual with good leadership skills who is able to deputise and support the ward manager and develop her/his colleagues. In return, you will also be supported in your development and be helped to adapt to this role.
