If so, The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) is looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Employee Relations Advisor to join our dedicated People team.

Main duties of the job

As an Employee Relations Advisor, you will play a key role in providing expert advice and guidance on a wide range of employment matters, including:

  • Managing complex employee relations cases (grievances, disciplinaries, sickness absence, and performance management)
  • Advising managers on HR policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Supporting the development and implementation of ER initiatives that promote a fair and inclusive workplace
  • Assisting with investigations and hearings in line with NHS policies and employment law
  • Supporting workforce wellbeing and engagement strategies

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford, and St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping.

We employ 4,000 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • A solid background in employee relations or HR advisory roles
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices
  • Experience in handling case management and HR investigations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced NHS environment, making informed and effective decisions

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level and/or equivalent level of experience in people / HR related role
  • Evidence of CPD including relevant employment law
Desirable criteria
  • Working towards CIPD level 5 qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Generalist HR knowledge base and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in managing employee relations cases
  • Experience of working in a people role in the NHS or public sector
