Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Medical Secretary/Admissions Clerk within the Urology department based at Colchester Hospital.
This post is a full time post.
This is a key role for the division. We are looking for a dynamic, flexible and enthusiastic team player to integrate with the current team and provide an efficient and effective secretarial and administrative support to the clinicians, patients & other team members.
You will have attention to detail, have excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritise and plan. You must be able to work using your own initiative and be flexible to work where the need is greatest.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will provide efficient and pro-active secretarial and admin support to the large team of busy consultants and other team members.
You will be the first contact for patients and queries on behalf of the Consultants and Department. You will work as part of a team, supporting other team members and covering when required.
Skills required for the post include: good typing and audio skills, the ability to prioritise tasks, effective time management skills, good IT and secretarial skills, good communication, interpersonal and organisation skills, and a good team member.

Qualifications
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Medical Secretarial practices.
- Audiotyping qualification
- Word processing to RSA II or equivalent
- ECDL (or willingness to undertake ECDL).
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven previous experience as an administrator
- Understand requirements of strict confidentiality
- Proven IT skills – Microsoft packages including Word/Excel/Outlook
- Excellent administrative skills
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of Hospital CareFlow system. Bighand experience
- Understand requirements for strict confidentiality
Skills
Essential criteria
- Maintain responsibility for own workplace Health and Safety and identify areas of concern.
Desirable criteria
- Must maintain equilibrium in times of stress when dealing with anxious persons either by telephone, letter or in person
