Job overview
Would you like to use your skills to help make a difference to our patients?
If so, we are looking for a receptionist/administrator to join our team and work in our oncology and haematology outpatients and Woolverstone day unit at Ipswich Hospital.
You will join an existing, supportive and established team of receptionists/administrators. This post is part time 22.5 hours per week and will be worked over 3 days, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, which may be subject to change upon needs of the service. You will need to be flexible to provide cover for other team members.
You will be the first point of contact for our patients visiting the department therefore you will play an integral part of making a difference to our patients by providing a friendly, welcoming face.
Main duties of the job
- Liaise with Administrative team to ensure all reception/admin work is being covered within both outpatients and the Day Unit
- Make and send out appointments as required.
- Greet and receive patients attending the department
- Encourage patients to use the “self-checking kiosks”
- Check and update patient’s information on the Lorenzo Computer System.
- Book follow-up appointments.
- Deal with telephone enquiries from other departments, patients and relatives
- Ensure patient attendances or non-attendance is correctly recorded and code accordingly.
- Keep Lorenzo up to date using the clarity information screens
- Ensure all day unit attendances are accurately recorded using chemotherapy booking system
- Scanning and retention of patient chemotherapy records
- Filing of patient notes
- Print off patient ID sheets/labels.
- Add patients to Access Plan
- Make Appointments from Access Plans in accordance with agreed follow up

- Working within a Cancer Department
Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- GCSE English & Mathematics (or equivalent)
- Computer qualification
Desirable criteria
- E.C.D.L.
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
