Job overview

Due to progression within the hospital we have exciting opportunities within the Ophthalmology Department in our admin and reception team. 

We are looking for vibrant, confident people to join the team to help deliver a high quality service in the department.  Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are a must. 

You must have basic keyboard skills and have a clear and confident telephone manner.  Ideally, you will have previous experience in a similar environment within an NHS setting.  You will need to have excellent organisational skills as this is a fast paced environment to work in.

This role will involve liaising with medical secretaries, admissions team and clinical staff to ensure the timely and efficient day-to-day operation of all clinics.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide general reception and clerical support to the Ophthalmology team
  • To act as front of house receptionist, greeting patients and their carers/relatives
  • To use the relevant IT systems to register patients and make appointments as required.
  • Support the administrative processes associated with outpatient clinics / referrals / inpatient referrals
  • To answer telephone enquiries in an efficient manner and ensure appropriate follow through using initiative to deal with routine enquiries and referring complex queries to the relevant medical secretary.
  • Maintain efficient electronic and manual filing systems, including the sorting and collation of all patient notes / results into the relevant patients’ hospital notes.
  • To liaise with the wider clinical team/Medical Secretaries/Consultants accordingly.
  • To undertake other clerical duties as requested e.g. photocopying, faxing, filing and maintaining adequate stationary supplies.
  • To recognise when situations need to be dealt with urgently and action appropriately
