Job overview

Our friendly and passionate ESNEFT Health and Safety Team are looking for a likeminded Health & Safety Advisor to join them.

You will provide expert advice to all levels of the organization, assist with the planning and implementation of health & safety training, conduct audits and incident investigations, and ensure compliance with current legislation and regulations. (Including local policies and procedures).

You will hold a minimum of a NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent) and will be able to demonstrate experience within a similar role.

Working hours are Monday - Friday, predominantly on-site and involves travel to all facilities across the Trust. You should have a full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle and live within daily commuting distance of Ipswich/Colchester Hospital.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide expert health and safety advice to all levels of the organisation
  • Conduct audits, visits, investigations and compliance monitoring
  • Act as a first point of contact for all health and safety matters.
  • Prepare high quality reports on health and safety issues.
  • Lead on, progress and resolve health and safety issues and concerns.
  • Attend and present at divisional meetings to promote a positive health and safety culture
  • Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and respond to the incident reporting system.
  • Investigate incidents; RIDDOR reporting.
  • To work across the Trust’s estate at a variety of sites and facilities.
  • To develop and deliver health and safety related training.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent) in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Membership of professional health and safety organisation e.g. IOSH and/or evidence of continued professional development
  • Driving Licence for the UK and access to a vehicle
  • Training qualification or willing to obtain (e.g. Level 3 AET/PTLLS, TAQA)
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience
  • Risk Management Qualification
  • Auditor training
  • Project management training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of advising on Health and Safety matters
  • Investigation experience
  • Experience in delivering Health and Safety training
  • Auditing experience
  • Experience of producing and delivering high quality reports
Desirable criteria
  • NHS or Public Sector Experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Detailed knowledge of current health and safety law
  • Good understanding of RIDDOR reporting
  • Good understanding of risk assessment techniques
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Health and Safety standards
  • Use of IT systems (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook) – standard keyboard skills
Desirable criteria
  • NHS IT systems e.g. DATIX
  • Understanding of HBN and HTM
  • Auditing software
  • Understanding of NHS agenda
