Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of our team. We are looking for an individual with an interest of working within an Infection Prevention and Control role to come and join us.

This role will provide you with experience in both acute and community Infection Prevention and Control nursing.  The primary base will be at the Colchester Hospital site. You must hold a current UK driving license, as travelling across North East Essex and East Suffolk will be required.

This will be a rotational post covering different specialities beginning with the new Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre.  Other specialities will include Medicine, Women and Children’s services, Oncology/Haematology, Surgery, Care of the Elderly and Community services.

Collaborative working with the local health economy relating to Infection Prevention Control is a key to the successes the Trust has developed in recent years. We are looking for someone who will continue to commit to this.

You must be professional in your approach and be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

You will support in the provision of clinical expertise and professional advice and leadership as a specialist resource in Infection Prevention and Control. This includes teaching, supporting development, research, surveillance and audit across all staff groups within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The Infection Prevention and Control Nurse serves as leader, mentor, and role model for the infection prevention and control program.

Maintains a knowledge base of current infection prevention and control information.

Supports the Infection Prevention and Control team in providing professional education for all staff as required maintaining an effective infection control program.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad Clinical Experience
  • Proven post registration nursing experience or a demonstrable and transferable skill set to meet the job requirements
  • Experience of facilitating change through quality improvement
Desirable criteria
  • Prior experience of IPC role
  • To have worked as band 6 or evidence of working at that level

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse recorded on Part 1 of the NMC register
  • Degree in relevant subject or evidence of working at that level
  • Teaching and assessing qualification (ENB998, C&G 730)
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification
  • Prince2 project management
  • Recognised Infection Control qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of audit and surveillance

Personal Skills

Essential criteria
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Ability to gather and analyse data, undertake investigations
Desirable criteria
