We are excited to able to offer an opportunity to join the Brain and Head & Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist Team at Ipswich Hospital in our Oncology Nursing service. This post is full time, however part time would be considered.

This is a lone nurse service, but you will have strong links to the team at the Colchester site and the wider Oncology CNS team. Your development is also important so there are opportunities for your continued professional development.

We would consider Band 6 developmental roles.

Main duties of the job

Provide a comprehensive service for patients with Brain and Head & Neck cancer.  You will provide expert care, advice and support to patients receiving treatment on in-patient and out-patient basis and to their families and as a resource to other staff.

This roles includes clinical duties, the development and leadership of nurse-led clinics to provide for the needs of the patients and their families.  You will also work closely with the Oncology/Haematology day unit and ward manager.

You will maintain an up to date knowledge base and will be expected to facilitate the professional development of nurses within the Division.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant proven post registration experience in Brain and Head and Neck nursing.
  • A broad range of experience working with Oncology patients and their families who have complex psychosocial needs
  • Understanding and management of patients undergoing SACT.
  • Experience of audit and research
  • Experience of teaching and assessing in clinical practice.
  • Competencies relevant to care group.
  • Understanding and experience of Acute Oncology.
Desirable criteria
  • Proven previous band 6/7 experience
  • Experience of enhancing patient care.
  • Can demonstrate evidence of leading service development.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse recorded on the NMC register
  • Teaching and assessing in clinical practice qualification.
  • Evidence or relevant post registration study to include at least one of the following: ENB 237/equivalent (Oncology), ENB 931/equivalent (Palliative Care), UKONS SACT Passport
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Psychological Care Level 2
  • Evidence of studying at a minimum of level 6 (first degree) with a willingness to study towards level 7 ( Masters)
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD.
