Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic Integrated Therapy Team based at Ipswich Hospital. The team covers one elective ward, and two trauma wards; one being a general trauma ward, and the other being a fragility fracture ward.

We are looking for a flexible, hardworking and reliable person who enjoys working as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team, with excellent communication skills.

You will be able to work autonomously to carry out all aspects of the Occupational therapy process to patients, including having an excellent understanding of relevant assessments and interventions, and complex discharge planning.

Alongside the clinical aspect of the job, there will be opportunities to be involved with and lead on service development, alongside supporting the development of junior staff, therapy assistants and students.

Please see attached job description and person spec for full details of duties, roles and responsibilities.

You  will be expected to work across the seven day service.

Main duties of the job

·       To deliver a high standard OT service in elective and trauma orthopaedics.

·       To manage a defined complex caseload under the management of the Team Leader, using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan and evaluate OT interventions, ensuring compliance with HCPC, CQC and Trust clinical and quality standards.

·       To ensure as far as is reasonably practical the safety of the patients in your care.

·       To supervise and assist in the development of junior OTs, non-qualified staff and students on placement.

·       To undertake audit of both clinical practice and processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Working for our organisation

We are ESNEFT and we provide hospital and community health services to almost one million people across east Suffolk and north Essex. Our dedicated staff deliver care from acute hospitals in Colchester and Ipswich, community hospitals, surgeries, community clinics and in patients’ own homes.

We are the largest NHS organisation in East Anglia, employing more than 12,000 staff.

We pride ourselves on supporting our staff. We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as flexible working options.

Along with supporting you to achieve your career goals we offer a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments (where applicable), 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata) and access to a range of NHS discounts. Our Staff Health and Wellbeing programme offer a variety of services.

Our philosophy is that Time Matters to everyone. Across the Trust, we concentrate on improving the things we do and removing those which cause time delays for our staff and patients.

We are investing in our commitment to Time Matters with a partnership with leading electronic patient record (EPR) supplier Epic. This digital transformation will bring what’s widely regarded as the world’s best EPR system to ESNEFT, transforming life in hospital for staff and patients.

If you are passionate about patient care and want to develop your skills and knowledge, then we want to hear from you.
