Are you an experienced Band 5 or Band 6 Nurse looking to develop your career and your high dependency nursing skills?

We are a busy Children's Ward and have recently been approved as a level 2 HDU unit. We are looking to recruit an experienced paediatric nurse who is passionate to care for children with a wide range of conditions including those with high dependency care needs.

We have a brand new dedicated 2 bedded HDU bay within the ward and care for patients requiring a number of high dependency interventions including CPAP and Long Term Ventilation. As a unit we also care for multiple specialities including medical, surgical, ENT and orthopaedic.

The successful post holder will have opportunities to develop clinical skills as well as professional leadership and management skills whilst working as part of our excellent team at Ipswich Hospital.

Main duties of the job

  • To work within the framework for Clinical Governance to provide effective, high quality individualised nursing care to patients and relatives/carers and to contribute to the continuing development of nursing practice.
  • To facilitate high standards of professional practice and the delivery of care, including high dependency care by working within Trust, Directorate and professional guidelines and protocols.
  • To work and ensure the wider team adhere to the Trust’s Competency Framework for Registered Nurses, the Ward/ Department Philosophy and the NMC Code of Conduct/ Professional Standards for the Protection of Patients.
  • To provide a safe and welcoming environment for children, young people and their families, working within available resources.

  • RSCN / RN (Child) (Part 8 or 15 of the NMC Register)
  • Post registration qualification relevant to area up to post graduate diploma level
  • Teaching & Assessing qualification
  • Paediatric Advanced Life Support Certificate (PALS/ EPLS)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development through portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • Nursing / Management degree
  • NVQ assessors qualification
  • Evidence of recent safeguarding children course
  • High Dependency Care qualification L2 (or prepared to complete once in post)
