Are you an experienced pharmacist looking for a career change and your next challenge in an acute hospital trust?
Due to service innovation and trust investment we have created a new exciting role as a Lead Pharmacist for our Homecare service to better enhance service delivery. You will be based at Ipswich Hospital, however cross site working to Colchester is required.
You will lead in providing cross-site delivery of the Homecare service. Working in conjunction with the Pharmacy Homecare team you will be key in ensuring high quality and cost effective medicines are provided to patients as part of the medicines optimisation strategy. You will maintain close links with NHS England and ICB in the provision of high cost drugs via Homecare delivery service.
Utilising your existing clinical pharmacy skills and expertise you will have the opportunity to apply these to this new role in accordance with the departmental vision.
Further professional learning and development opportunities are available including leadership courses provided by the trust.
ESNEFT is about to embark on a full site wide implementation of the EPIC electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing and administration as well as pharmacy stock control system.
In addition to our fully automated dispensaries, we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and the Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (including a brand new Aseptic facility).
Main duties of the job
- Fulfil role as the Lead Pharmacist for the homecare services in the provision of medicines via Homecare to patients at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
- Act as a link and provide support and advice to a specialist clinical area where high cost drugs and homecare services are used, e.g. Rheumatology, Dermatology
- Optimise the processes involved from reviewing a funding application to initiation of treatment for patients, to ensure delays are avoided
- Contribute to the development of the Pharmacy Homecare service.
- Coordinate processes for the introduction of homecare services for new medicines, including the development and implementation of local policies, in liaison with the pharmacy homecare team and homecare providers
- Provide clinical leadership and expertise for Pharmacy Homecare consultations and homecare queries
- Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators for homecare services and investigate incidents related to homecare services
- Support, develop and monitor the training and education of all pharmacy staff working in homecare services and users of Blueteq
- Attend and actively participate in service review meetings between multidisciplinary clinical teams and homecare providers in relation to specific homecare service level agreements, and provide specialist pharmacy input to ensure compliance with professional, clinical and operational standards.

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of high cost drugs and biologics funding arrangements with ICB and NHSE
- Knowledge of current Pharmacy issues and medicines legislation and Therapeutics
- Knowledge of formulary development and application
- Knowledge of Hospital Pharmacy procedures
- Evidence of CPD
- Good clinical knowledge
- Knowledge of governance frameworks and risk management.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Homecare services and an understanding of Pharmacy Procurement
Experience
Essential criteria
- Adequate hospital pharmacy experience.
- Variety of Clinical Pharmacy Experience
- Experience of working through change in the workplace and of the impact of change
- Leading other staff
Desirable criteria
- Project management and audit experience.
- Experience of writing guidelines and procedures
- Experience of writing new medicine business cases
- Experience of working with Blueteq
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Vocational master’s degree in Pharmacy or equivalent + examined pre-registration training
- Diploma in general pharmacy practice or equivalent
- Evidence of and commitment to continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
- Independent prescriber status
