Are you an experienced Pharmacy Technician looking for a career change or your next challenge in an acute hospital trust? 

We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Ipswich Hospital.

New investment has created this exciting opportunity for you to help the department develop and progress the clinical pharmacy service within Critical Care and Theatres and Nutrition Services.    

You will be based within the Pharmacy department but will spend a significant amount of time working at ward/clinical level, ensuring the delivery of all aspects of pharmacy service to specialist high-risk patients, whilst supporting the lead clinical pharmacist develop our services to our theatres and recovery areas.

Our friendly pharmacy team are dedicated to nurturing, mentoring and developing our staff to reach their full potential. We offer direct one-to-one training, pharmacy forums, clinical huddles and other educational activity. We support personal development plans, smart objective setting and opportunities for study.

ESNEFT is about to embark on a full, site wide implementation of EPIC electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing and administration and pharmacy stock control system replacement.

In addition to our fully automated dispensaries, we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and the Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (including a brand new Aseptic facility at Colchester Hospital)

Main duties of the job

Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to Critical Care patients in line with the pharmacy Key Performance Indicators and agreed clinical standards.

Ensure the delivery of an enhanced clinical service to Recovery/Theatres and other clinical areas as necessary.

Provide a key level of support to the Senior Clinical Pharmacist – Critical Care Services. Provide ongoing clinical support and guidance to other pharmacy colleagues and the multidisciplinary team contributing to practice within the specific areas of working.

Assist senior multidisciplinary colleagues in ensuring that all required medication safety and clinical governance issues are actioned and implemented in a timely manner within the respected specialities.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GPhC registered
  • Medicines Reconciliation trained (either local or regional)
  • Regional Accredited Checking Technician qualification
  • B-Tech in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Certificate in Medicines Management
  • Patient Consultation Skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous extensive hospital experience inclusive of Clinical Pharmacy practice
  • Demonstrated experience of multi-disciplinary working at ward/clinical level and handling of high risk medicines
  • Previous experience of educating and training other staff
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working specifically with Critical Care patients

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Computer Literacy including in - use understanding of electronic prescribing systems
  • Medicines Management
  • Clinical knowledge of issues relevant to Critical Care patients gained through training & experience
  • Understanding of pharmacy organisational/structure (local/national)
  • Understanding of the relationship of the pharmacy department to the wider multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of clinical issues affecting patients residing within Critical Care
  • Basic understanding of clinical issues relating to practice within theatres
