Job overview

Ipswich Hospital are looking for a Pharmacy Assistant to provide an efficient and timely medicines delivery service.

Based within the Pharmacy department this role involves the delivery, distribution and collection of pharmacy stocks, drugs and other items throughout pharmacy and Ipswich Hospital.

You will need to have the ability to work within a team and on your own.

As part of this role you will be able to undertake NVQ Level 2 modules in Pharmacy services.

For this role you will be required to lift and handle potentially heavy boxes and move boxes and other items throughout pharmacy and the hospital including wards, theatres and clinics.

This post will be 15 hours per week, 8:30 – 5:00 Monday and Tuesday (subject to change upon needs of the service)

Main duties of the job

  • Collect and subsequently deliver boxes, bags and other items for the Dispensary from the wards, theatres and clinics.
  • To pick and subsequently deliver IV fluid orders for the wards, theatres and clinics.
  • To deliver controlled drugs to the wards, theatres and clinics.
  • To work within the stores and Distribution areas in accordance with departmental procedures when necessary.
  • To ensure that all deliveries are signed for and temporarily stored according to the departmental procedures.
  • To complete Random drug stock accuracy checks.
  • To participate in general housekeeping stock control, expiry date checking and stock rotation in the department.
  • To return any waste medicines to pharmacy in accordance with the hospital policies.
  • To collect items from pharmacy stores as requested by other members in the department.
  • Assess safe loading of large pharmacy trolleys for use in confined spaces.
  • To assist the when necessary in the storage of items including bulk IV fluids.
