We are looking for an experienced nurse who has knowledge in Urology/Uro-oncology nursing. You must have the passion and drive to provide high quality patient centred care.

As a urology triage nurse specialist, you will deliver a high quality specialist nursing service to our patients at the beginning of the suspected cancer pathway for urology cancers. The role will include telephone triage of patients assessing their fitness for investigations as well as supporting the urology nursing team as required. Experience of looking after urological patients would be beneficial in this role.

The post holder will work closely with a variety of health care professionals and the management team, you will be a valued member of the team and you will have input in developing the faster diagnostic standards.

This is a challenging and demanding role and requires a proactive, self-motivated, dedicated person who is capable of understanding complex care pathways across multiple agencies and services to ensure the highest quality of care and service delivery for our patients. You will have excellent communication skills, be able to manage your own work load and have problem solving skills. You will be an excellent team player but equally be able to work in a self-directed manner.

Please note, this is a fixed term/secondment position for twelve months following commencement. Internal candidates will be offered a secondment only.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • To lead and manage a triage service for patients referred on the urgent suspected cancer referral urological pathway
  • To lead on the development of the faster diagnostic standard
  • To provide initial key worker support to patients whilst they undergo investigations for urology cancer, including Prostate, kidney, bladder, penile and testicular cancer
  • To provide expert holistic assessment
  • Automatously plan and facilitate initial investigations as per protocol. Review results and coordinate appropriate care
  • To support all areas of urology oncology nursing including diagnostic procedures in the urology investigation suite/ urology diagnostic unit, Cancer Nurse Specialist or other members of the MDT as required.
  • In order to maintain a seamless service to patients and staff, it will require to cross-cover on either site as required
  • To be involved in the development of nursing practice with research, audit and evidence based practice.

  • Significant post registration experience with proven experience in cancer and/or urology
  • Evidence of participation in audit, service development and implementation of change
  • Evidence of teaching and supporting professional development of others within the clinical environment
  • Evidence of managing and improving the patient experience

  • Evidence of management and leadership responsibly, such as line management
  • Evidence of participation in the cancer Quality Surveillance programme (peer review)

Qualifications

  • Professional Registration with NMC
  • Possesses an MSc in cancer specialist/ related health care area or has evidence of qualifications at this level or willing to work towards this
  • Evidence of achievement of Fundamentals of Cancer Care learning outcomes or equivalent

  • Non-Medical Prescribing (v300) if appropriate to registered profession /role.
  • Leadership/management course
  • Level 2 psychological support training

Knowledge

  • Demonstrates a high degree of knowledge within urology and/or Cancer
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current developments in urology.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and risk assessment/management
  • Knowledge of infection control issues

  • Good understanding of the strategic aims for cancer

Skills

  • Evidence of both theoretical and practical skills and competency in patient management
  • Strong leadership skills

  • Computer skills (i.e., for radiology, pathology, microbiology ordering as per protocols and for clinical communication and data entry).
