Senior Clinical Fellow (ST3+) - Accident and Emergency

Clinical Fellow ST3+

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people. Our newly formed Trust, comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend,  is determined to provide the best health services for its local population. We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

We are looking for dynamic and passionate ST3 Doctors to join our Emergency Department at Southend Hospital where you will be working alongside our multi-disciplinary team to provide urgent and emergency diagnosis and care to all unselected Emergency presentations who arrive either by ambulance or as self-presentations involving working in all areas i.e. Resus, Majors, Minors, Paediatric and Rapid Assessment areas.

Your post is required to commence as soon as possible with around 100,000 people attending our Emergency department every year, we’re really setting the pace in care.

Emergency Medicine has its own clinical director, under whom you will contribute a wealth of fresh ideas and drive innovative practice.

Although this post is not recognised for Training,  we have a good record of doctors going on to achieve training posts. You will have an educational supervisor for regular progress meetings and be expected to take part in all the teaching programmes in the department, your rota will give you an average of 4 hours per week CPD time protected off the shop floor, the department will also pay the course fee for you to get all 3 life support courses- adult, paediatric and trauma and you would be expected to take part in audit and QIP.

Main duties of the job

All clinicians provide 24 hour cover for the Emergency department as an integrated team, led by the consultants 0800-22:00, and are responsible for ensuring that a high standard of care is provided for all the Emergency Department patients. Providing 24 hour shop floor cover is an essential part of the commitment and you must show the required clinical skills and experience and be able to demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team.

You, in conjunction with the senior nurse, will be responsible for monitoring departmental performance and for maximizing performance; keeping waiting times within nationally agreed standards and delivering personally high quality medical care to National Standards.

Working for our organisation

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest in the country, with a workforce of approximately 15,000 who serve a population of 1.2 million people.

We work together, and in conjunction with MSE Health and Care Partnership, to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients in a compassionate way, and provide a respectful, but vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

From facilities through to consultant specialists we want to be the best, to achieve this we need to recruit not just those who are the finest in their field but also those who have the potential to be. Yes, experience is important but so is outlook – if you are dynamic, forward-thinking and enthusiastic we want you to join us.

We not only offer you a good working environment with flexible working opportunities, but also the opportunity to develop your career with access to appropriate training for your job and the support to succeed and progress.
