Job overview

Following the implementation of the MSE new operating model we are delighted to advertise the new Head of Nursing post for Ophthalmology part of the Surgical Division in MSE.  The post will provide senior nursing leadership  across the MSE.  

There is no current inpatient ward responsibilities, these services provide outpatient and day surgery treatment of patients in both the emergency and elective patient pathways.  

You will manage a team of matrons and lead nurses in these areas and will report to the Associate Director of Nursing, deputising for them in their absence.  

As part of the Surgery Division you will be supported by an experienced ADON and Medical Director to support the surgical divisions strategy to improve patient care, pathways and ensure we meet the highest standards of practice with all patient contact.

Main duties of the job

As Head of Nursing, you will act as a professional resource and advisor, providing support and guidance on all matters concerning patient’s including the protection of the vulnerable.

Ensuing that professional and practice developments within services meets national, local, and organisational priorities in relation to service modernisation, service delivery, clinical governance and leadership and will ensure that statutory procedures appropriately managed and delivered.
 
You will be integral to the delivery of safe, effective consistent and high-quality services for patients and their carer’s and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team will be instrumental in promoting clinical excellence and best practice

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered AHP, Nurse or Scientific Professional.
  • Qualification in management or leadership or equivalent
  • Relevant Master’s degree or equivalent or portfolio of evidence
Desirable criteria
  • Project management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience at senior level in a clinical role which included an element of Quality Governance and Risk Management.
  • Effective clinical / operational management at band 8 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working across regions or nationally on clinical governance/quality improvement initiatives.
