Specialty Doctor - Cellular Pathology

Specialty Doctor

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend.

We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation determined to provide the best health care services for our local population and working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

Here is an exciting opportunity for you to join our pathology team at Southend on sea as a specialty doctor.

This is a fully integrated department providing a comprehensive surgical pathology service, including diagnostic non-gynaecology cytopathology, an autopsy service, and breast screening services for South Essex.

As our Specialty Doctor you will be engaged to assist the Consultant team in meeting the demands placed on the service.

If you are interested in the role and believe you hold the qualities we require, then apply today!

Please be aware this may close early due to the number of applications.

Main duties of the job

A wide and interesting range of biopsy material and surgical specimens is submitted for examination, a substantial proportion of which is diagnostic work for the Trust's Cancer Centre.

A reorganisation of working practices has allowed all the members of the team to maintain expertise in a broad range of diagnostic pathology whilst conforming to the increasing need for specialisation in major cancers. A designated single lead Cellular Pathologist for each multidisciplinary team is identified.

As our Specialty Doctor you will participate in surgical cut-up and contribute to the reporting service in line with best practice in regard to knowledge and qualifications.

Working for our organisation

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest in the country, with a workforce of approximately 15,000 who serve a population of 1.2 million people.

We work together, and in conjunction with MSE Health and Care Partnership, to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients in a compassionate way, and provide a respectful, but vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

From facilities through to consultant specialists we want to be the best, to achieve this we need to recruit not just those who are the finest in their field but also those who have the potential to be. Yes, experience is important but so is outlook – if you are dynamic, forward-thinking and enthusiastic we want you to join us.

We not only offer you a good working environment with flexible working opportunities, but also the opportunity to develop your career with access to appropriate training for your job and the support to succeed and progress
