Job overview
Mid and South NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a gynaecology / surgical ward clerk to be based at our Southend Hospital site.
We are pleased to offer this post of ward clerk to support the staff and service users providing high quality reception duties, welcoming service users/visitors to the ward. To ensure patients details are recorded accurately on Medway system. Manage telephone enquiries in a professional manner. Access medical records using various systems.
The role will requires flexibility to ensure service is covered to meet the service needs.
Main duties of the job
The ward clerk is a key member of the ward team. Responsible for providing a wide range of administrative, I.T. and clerical support. This includes maintaining computer and paper-based patient records, preparing ward paperwork and the co-ordination of many of the ward’s activities.
The ward clerk is expected both to follow specific instructions from the healthcare team and to follow general procedures that involve a greater level of autonomy and decision-making.
To be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, and efficient administrative service to the ward; enabling the delivery of a high quality service to the patients and allowing medical and nursing staff to focus on direct patient care. This will involve considerable liaison with other departments and wards.
To offer effective support to the ward team to assist with the improvement of the flow of patients within the hospital in order to reduce patient waiting times.
