Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team in our vibrant eye department.

The optometrists work closely with orthoptists, ophthalmologists and ophthalmic technicians to deliver exceptional service to our patients across the sub-specialities.

You will undertake cycloplegic and subjective refraction with a range of children and adults and be involved in the co-management of a variety of ophthalmic conditions including strabismus, amblyopia, aphakia and congenital cataract.

The post offers training in specialits paediatric refraction and the post-holder will be fully supported by the team of optometrists, orthoptists and ophthalmologists.

This post offers 2 sessions per week with the team.

Main duties of the job

To provide optometry services at Southend Hospital NHS Trust and Orsett Eye Unit (part of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust).

To deliver effectively, individually and as part of a team, core and specialist optometry skills including adult and paediatric refraction, contact lens fitting and diagnostic techniques.

To work as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team. To undertake clinical audit and to take responsibility for own continuing professional development.

Essential criteria
  • GOC registration
  • BSc Optometry or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in acute hospital trust
  • 1 year post pre-reg experience
  • Previous experience with paediatric patients

  • Uk driving licence
  • Evidence of good interpersonal skills and team working
