Job overview

Our Stroke service at Southend Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated trained nurse to join its Stroke team in a secondment role providing specialist treatment and care for patients immediately following a stroke; the pathway starts in A&E where the stroke specialist nurses who are on call 24/7 provides thrombolysis and thrombectomy assessment, initial rapid brain imaging and delivers an overall high standard of stroke care.

The focus of your role is to assess, facilitate and provide lifesaving treatment in a timely manner and ensure a prompt triage to Stroke Unit for the staff to deliver immediate hyper acute care for the first 72 hours post stroke.

Main duties of the job

Your role is to facilitate and co-ordinate nursing care during the acute admission pathway for stroke patients. Liaise, plan and implement initial acute care in collaboration with the relevant Stroke Senior Clinician.

You will participate in the development of acute and rehabilitation stroke nursing within the Trust. Encourage others to be innovative and adaptable in their approach to change by contributing to the implementation of the National long-term plan for Stroke, Stroke Strategy, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance and Royal College of Physicians Guidelines for Stroke.

You will be expected to hold the Acute Stroke bleep and provide a prompt level of advanced and comprehensive nursing assessment based on specialist knowledge and experience in Hyper Acute Care and where required, support the specialist stroke team with any required research
