Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join our Strategy and Partnership Directorate.  Working alongside other Service Development Manager’s (SDM), each with a strategic lead area, the focus on this role is to support the development of integrated locality working.  You will drive transformational change at a locality and neighbourhood level with our partners and organisational colleagues, support the delivery of the Trust’s wider strategy, and support change activities that improve the care and health for the people of Gloucestershire.

The role has a strategic priority specific focus, to lead and support the delivery of two of the Trust’s Strategic Objectives – Better Care and Sustainability.  Integrating localised services, tackling health inequality, and reducing the NHS’s carbon footprint are some of the biggest challenges facing NHS Trusts in the UK.  This role will provide key strategic support to ensure the Trust has robust plans in place and is delivering identified priorities and objectives.

The qualification, training & experience requirements for the role are underlined in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Main duties of the job

As an SDM, you will play a vital role in developing the integrated locality partnership agenda, working on key priorities for both the Trust and key stakeholders to help shape and deliver on transformational change priorities across designated localities. This role currently supports the Stroud and Berkley Vale and the Cotswolds localities. You will act as the GHC key point of contact to the internal and external stakeholders, including wider health and care system, working with Integrated Care System (ICS) leads.

In this role you will provide specific professional leadership, support, advice, and facilitation of service development on the Trust’s Better Care and Sustainability strategic agenda across all GHC provision through the application of a range of service development, change management, and improvement methodologies. You will have, or be able to develop, an in-depth knowledge of health inequality and personalised care agendas, placed-based integrated care, sustainability agenda and green plan, and clinical/professional best practice and use this knowledge and experience to facilitate transformation and change plans.

Relationship management, system convening, and networking are key components of the work for this role. You will develop positive relationships with professionals, system partners and with people who use services, carers and families encouraging co-production at all levels.

Working for our organisation

We have in excess of 5000 staff working over 50 sites, providing a diverse range of services. We strive to support an organisational culture that is welcoming, builds and celebrates inclusivity and diversity and provides a sense of belonging and trust.

The annual NHS Staff Survey gives our people the opportunity to tell us about their experience working at the Trust.  For the 2023 survey just over 2800 colleagues gave us their views (58.5%).   It was great to see from the results that colleagues are saying that:

  • 89.7% believe they are making a positive difference to patients/service users;
  • 73.3% would recommend the organisation as a place to work;
  • 82.4% agree that care of patients and service users is the organisations priority;
  • 76.7% would be happy with the standard of care for a friend or relative

Our results put us as 5th nationally as a Community, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities NHS Employer of Choice and 1st equal amongst all NHS Provider Trusts in the South West. However, we know we have more to do and will continue to drive forward our commitment to making GHC a Great Place to Work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a team member in the Partnerships Team, you will be managed by the Head of Partnerships and will work closely with GHC Director and Deputy of Strategy and Partnerships on the delivery of the Trust’s strategic priorities. The S&P Directorate includes roles which fulfil a wide range of functions that align with the directorate portfolio and Trust strategic goals.

The directorate structure is organised across three distinct yet integrated team, as follows:

  • Partnership Team
  • Quality Improvement (QI) Team
  • Transformation Team

The main functions of the directorate are predominantly enabling the Trust to develop and deliver its strategy, but alongside that we have several key areas which are underpinned by the high value we place on working together with the people and communities we serve, across corporate and operational services, and with our local and national system partners.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is part of the NHS. We treat NHS patients according to NHS principles and standards. The difference is the Trust is accountable to local people, rather than to Government, and so we can work closely with our community to develop services in the way that best suits the needs of local people.
