We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated person with NHS or other therapy/care experience to join our Brain Injury team.  This exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the team supporting the  Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) beds for rehabilitation in Whittington House, a care facility in Cheltenham which provides a period of re-enablement to people.

 You must have good communication skills, a flexible approach and experience working with patients.  You must also be able to cope with the challenges of this complex client group. The ability to use your initiative and work well on your own and as part of a multidisciplinary team is essential.

The post will include participation in the assessment and delivery of therapy, including providing rehabilitation to promote independence in activities of daily living – washing, dressing, cooking -, mobility, communication, etc.   Although the vast majority of the work will be at Whittingham House, you will have some opportunity to cover work in the acute hospital setting and in other community locations, from the immediate post injury stage through to longer term community rehabilitation.

 The post holder is required to work the hours over 5 half days (3.75 hours) per week, Mon-Fri.  A mix of mornings and afternoons would be ideal.

The post holder will use the principles of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology and Speech and Language Therapy in an integrated and client-centred way, to promote independence and facilitate rehabilitation. 

This will be achieved by implementing delegated treatment plans and facilitating rehabilitation within agreed limitations through exercise, physical modalities and the use of occupation. 

The post holder will assess and manage delegated patients with  mobility and occupational difficulties, reporting back to the registered practitioner as necessary

The Brain Injury Team is a busy and friendly clinical service within the Trust

– You would have the opportunity to work directly with staff to facilitate an efficient and compassionate  service for patients.

The step down ABI unit  provides rehabilitation for patients transitioning from the acute service or out of county units to support them with their therapy goals and to return home.

The wider Brain Injury Team is a multidisciplinary team comprising of  Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Therapy Technicians delivering services to adults with brain injury – in hospital and in the community.
