Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a job within our expanding Urology Department which we hope to become a Centre of Excellence in the future and we hope to be able to offer further training and development opportunities. We are a growing department and have 13 Urologists , an inpatient ward and out patients unit. We will be opening  opening a diagnostics unit where LATP - Local Anaesthetic Trans Perineal biopsies will take place, Flexible Cystoscopies ,Lithotripsy and developing a Urology Assessment unit  - to see assess treat and discharge patients or decide to admit patients.

This unit together is working collaboratively to ensure the patient is the centre of our service and receives the best care , in a timely manner and with highly skilled nurses running this department.

Main duties of the job

- To deliver safe person centred care within  a changing environment ,using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.  This will include supporting the management of LATP/Flexible Cystoscopy / Lithotripsy  procedures and an emergency Urology Assessment unit as a team and ensuring skill mix remains at a safe level of care and all these clinics and assessment areas will be within your roles of responsibility. This will involve rotation within the unit and allocation of specific clinics/assessment areas with training and support.

− To administer medication and treatment within Procedure for the Ordering, Prescribing and Administration of Medical Guidelines.

− Participate in mentorship and educational programmes for students and other members of the team.

− To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and professional code of conduct.

− To support line manager

− To train and gain competencies in aspects of investigative procedures adhering to policies , procedures and guidelines.

− To deliver and receive information which may cause emotional distress to all parties.

- To be a role model to your own team of nurses and healthcare assistants.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

- Registered Adult Nurse with current registration status with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and able to meet the revalidation requirements with appropriate teaching/assessing qualification and with substantial years post registration experience.

- To have knowledge and understanding to be able to act as a resource and support the nursing team to provide high quality, evidence based care

- Has relevant knowledge to be able to assist with the co-ordination of staff training to ensure a high professional standard in all aspects of patient care.

- To work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team

- Relevant acute nursing experience in a hospital setting

- Recognised Nursing Degree or equivalent 

- Excellent organisational, line management, interpersonal and leadership skills.

- A willingness to develop knowledge and skill is essential

- Demonstrate proven change management skills.

- An ability to perform clinical skills with dexterity

Clinical Practice

As a Registered  Nurse  the expectation is that, with adequate training, supervision and assessment, you will be able to;

- Be competent in the use of all relevant Trust IT systems including the use of electronic patient record, email, and Trak-Care 

- Maintain regular use of emails to keep abreast of information disseminated in the Trust

- Adhere to the NMC code of practice at all times and operate within the NMC standards of proficiency for Registered Nurses

- To act as a resource and support nursing teams in the care delivery of patients across specialities

- To contribute to the development of specialty protocols and guidelines

- Able to work alongside nursing staff, role modelling high standards of practice whilst assessing, delivering and ensuring your patient receives the safe and effective treatment during their consultation and procedures /assessments.  Highlighting any areas of development for team members as required.

- To actively monitor and support the health and wellbeing of team members: advising on resources available and escalating for line manager assistance as required and agreed by the individual staff member

- Responsible for the administration of clinical procedures/treatments within the specialist area, acting as an expert resource for the nursing team.

- To effectively input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer based systems, namely Trak /EPR systems and other specialist systems and be able to advise and support other team members in their use.

- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records
