Are you an experienced and creative Paediatric dietitian, who is passionate about service innovation and development? We have an exciting opportunity for you to be part of a brand-new multidisciplinary team of professionals (inc. Clinical psychologist, Consultant Paediatrician, Nursing and Family Support Worker) providing whole-family support for children and young people (CYP) living with severe and/or complex obesity in Gloucestershire.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate dietitian to work alongside the dietitian/s in the team who has the drive to develop the service and deliver training to healthcare professionals within the community. The post holder will have excellent leadership skills, extensive experience of multi-agency working and passion for delivering high quality nutrition and lifestyle interventions. You will have the opportunity to work within paediatric neonates or general paediatric inpatient/outpatients 1 day per week providing variety and enabling you to keep other paediatric dietetic skills up to date. There is the potential for this post to be combined with neonatal services to develop further services in conjunction with the support of the South West Network. The post holder is responsible for actively contributing to the delivery of an efficient, effective and compassionate weight management service (WMS) for children and young people (CYP) living with severe and/ or complex obesity. Specifically, this will include working alongside a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide integrated care alongside Gloucestershire’s Community Weight Management provider.

You will also form part of the Nutrition and Dietetic paediatric team at Gloucester Royal hospital. We are a friendly, dynamic and forward-thinking team who have a fantastic reputation within the trust. We are a large friendly department based on 2 sites; Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) & Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH).The team is also made up of the Home Enteral Feeding Team (HEFT).
Within the department at GRH we have a team of Acute Dietitians, Paediatric Dietitians and a Home Enteral Feed Team. At CGH we have a team of Oncology Dietitians as well as the Acute team. We also have a Nutrition Support Team, a Specialist Gastroenterology Team and Specialist Diabetes Dietitians working on both hospital sites. Our teams include dietitians, dietetic support workers, dietetic assistants and nurses.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be directly responsible to the Paediatric Team Lead and working alongside the paediatric dietitians the CYP team the rest of the dietetic team.
You will be working to plan, implement and monitor high quality nutritional care to children with complex needs in the inpatient and outpatient settings, including community clinics .
You will be actively involved in the supervision, education and development of Band 5/6 staff and also contribute to the training of A, B & C students each year. Please see the job description and person specification for more details.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Essential criteria
- Degree in dietetics
- Substantial paediatric experience NHS
- HCPC registered
Desirable criteria
- Educated to masters level
- Experience of using specialist clinical knowledge to deliver high-quality care to CYP.
- Non medical prescribing
- Experience of working with CYP/ families living with obesity and using trauma-informed behaviour change/ motivational interviewing techniques to enable sustainable change.
- Demonstrate knowledge/experience of service development, identifying development needs/ gaps for training provision.
- Demonstrate contribution to developing strategy and outcomes that have resulted in improvements.
- Experience of effectively maintaining working relationship within a team.
- Experience of implementing quality assurance.
- Ability to assess CYP with complex medical problems and to plan their dietetic care.
- Ability to deliver educational sessions to CYP, colleagues and staff across community organisations, health, education and social care.
- The ability to manage change and conflict to ensure resolutions with positive outcomes for the CYP/ service.
- The ability to inspire, influence, persuade and negotiate across organisational boundaries.
- Prioritisation, planning, organisational and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines amongst competing interests
- The ability to be human – adopting a person-centred and compassionate approach to care.
