Job overview

We wish to appoint a Speciality Registrar colleague to join our expanding Vascular Service at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT). 
The appointee will undertake supervised elective Vascular Surgery in the Vascular Team.  The appointee  would be expected to cover  part of the General surgery on-call rota (days, nights, evenings and weekends). This comprises of a 15-week rota cycle, with shift blocks of 3 or 4 days. During this time, you will do the equivalent of 14 daytime on-call shifts and 7 night on-call shifts. Prospective cover for colleagues is expected. 
The elective working week will vary depending on the individual requirements of all trainees in the firm and also based on their level of experience

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Successful completion of MRCS or equivalent at time of application
  • Eligible for full or limited registration with the GMC at time of appointment
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
  • Evidence of achievement of ST1 competencies in surgery at time of appointment & ST2 competencies in surgery

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Validated logbook documentation of surgical exposure to date
  • Evidence of contributing to teaching & learning of others
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Vascular Surgery
  • Experience in active participation in audits

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Vascular and allied specialties commensurate with completion of training
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement & prioritise clinical need.
