Job overview
Work as a member of the Estates & Facilities Team in all areas of the site. Facilities Assistants will be expected to demonstrate a flexible attitude to their work to meet the needs of the service.
Maintains a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness, as defined within the National Specification of Cleanliness.
Prepares and presents patient meals and beverages in inpatient areas in accordance with Food Hygiene procedures.
Main duties of the job
- Ensure the cleanliness of the environment in accordance with the National Specification of Cleanliness 2007 or equivalent and to the agreed work schedules. The post holder will clean all areas of the site using a range of methods e.g. High dusting, damp dusting, vacuuming and mopping, in line with the NHS Cleaning Manual.
- Be responsible for maintaining and replenishing stocks of consumable items used within the department, i.e.: paper hand towels, soap, in a safe and responsible manner.
- Adhere to all aspects of Infection Control in all areas of work, including the use of colour coded equipment to ensure there is no spread of infection.
- Follow local procedures for reporting areas cleaned and highlighting issues which have prevented duties being carried out.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Basic understanding of cleaning and catering procedures
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of cleaning and catering duties within a similar working environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of COSHH (training will be given)
- Knowledge and understanding of the importance of Food Hygiene.
- Understanding of safe Manual Handling procedures.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Basic level of education.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Level 1 in Cleaning or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate (training will be given; willing to complete and pass)

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
