Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for providing psychiatric input for the inpatients resident at Ty Llewelyn medium secure unit.

All referrals to the unit are managed by a single point of access and a weekly planning meeting.

The post holder will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment as well as basic medical support for those individuals in Ty Llewelyn Medium Secure Unit.

The post holder will undertake reports as require for the Ministry of Justice, Mental Health Act Review Tribunals, as well as CTP and ASR reports.

The post holder will be based with Ty Llewelyn and work with the ward and service managers to ensure clinical leadership of the multi-disciplinary team.  The post holder will assist with clinical supervision of the team. It is anticipated that the post holder will assist in training of team members in clinical matters.

The post holder will be expected to comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 and undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010. 

The post may at times attract a junior doctor, depending on availability in the training rota.

Undertake responsibilities if approved under the Mental Health Act (1983) as a section 12/2 approved doctor.  Routine 136 assessments do not fall into the post holder’s responsibilities. 

Undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide psychiatric assessment, treatment and management for as well as day to day medical support for inpatients in Ty Llewelyn medium secure unit.

The post holder will be based within Ty Llewelyn and will work closely with the consultant psychiatrist and the wider MDT. 

The post holder will ensure clinical leadership of the multi-disciplinary team.  The post holder will assist with clinical supervision of the team. It is anticipated that the post holder will assist in training of team members in clinical matters.

The post holder will complete the necessary reports required by the Ministry of Justice and Mental Health Tribunal Reports as appropriate.

Professional

Essential criteria
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Minimum of four years (full time or equivalent) in postgraduate training in the UK or equivalent EEA training. At least two years training must be in the relevant specialty or recognised equivalent training (this is defined as the successful completion of the Foundation programme, followed by either successful completion of ST1 and ST2 or CT1 and CT2 or as a FTSTA or its recognised equivalent).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • General medical skills
Desirable criteria
  • 2 years’ experience in Adult /Forensic psychiatry.
  • Experience in older adult psychiatry for a minimum of 1 year.
