Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) Public Health Team are seeking to recruit a full-time Consultant in Public Health to join their public health team in North Wales, this is a replacement posts due to retirement.  The post will hold a portfolio of work overseen by the current post holder across a range of public health regional priorities for North Wales, as well as taking a place-based leadership role.  The post will have place-based responsibility for Gwynedd and Anglesey.  Place-based work will consist of working in partnership with stakeholders across the system to achieve improvements in population health, as well as taking a public health leadership role across a range of partnership groups and Public Service Boards.    

Main duties of the job

Your responsibilities will cover all areas of Public Health professional practice, including:

·         Health Improvement,

·         Health Care Quality and Improvement,

·         Health Protection,

·         Health Intelligence,

·         Research and Development.

Further areas of work will be negotiated according to the needs of the department and the skills and knowledge of the successful candidate on appointment.  A detailed work plan will be drawn up with the Executive Director of Public Health, upon appointment, drawing on the key tasks outlined in the Job Description.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List (and licenced to practice) /UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) • If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health medicine practice • Public health specialty registrar and specialist trainee applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in dental public health/UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry at the date of interview; all other applicants must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they have applied for inclusion in the GMC/GDC/UKPHR specialist registers
  • Understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice, health promotion, health economics and health care evaluation
  • Knowledge of NHS information, and its interpretation
  • Knowledge of wider determinants of health, information and its interpretation
  • Understanding of social and political environment
  • Understanding of local authorities and social services

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Practical experience in facilitating change in clinical practice
  • Three or more years’ experience of public health practice at senior level
  • Staff Management & Leadership
  • Experience working within the health care setting with senior clinicians
