Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a fixed term Band 6 in our Upper GI Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist team. This position is Maternity Leave cover between September 2024 and July 2025.

Candidates should be forward thinking, be able to demonstrate good clinical and assessment skills and have an understanding of the National Optimal Pathways for Upper GI Cancers.

The post holder will need to demonstrate excellent communication and decision making skills, and have the ability to deliver Compassionate Care within a complex demanding environment. A commitment to person centred care are essential qualities for this post.

You will need to demonstrate Continuing Professional Development and have an understanding of the impact of cancer on patients and their relatives.

If you are dedicated to improving the patient experience during their Cancer Journey and motivated to progress your career as a Clinical Nurse Specialist then this complex clinical area will enhance your job satisfaction by developing your specialist skills.

Upper GI experience is desirable in conjunction with education to degree level or working towards the attainment of a degree. Expressions of interest from those working within a role involving the care of patients affected by cancer within the community will also be considered.

Main duties of the job

  • High standards of Professional Practice to ensure quality and safety of patient care, experience and the patient journey
  • Specialised clinical practice, knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Supporting the Team Leader in the Productivity and Financial management of a clinical area.
  • Leading by example
  • Supporting and contributing to the team in ensuring that clinical services are delivered to a high quality of care and that all compliance requirements such as CQC and contractual requirements are achieved.
  • Effective leadership
  • To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients including those with a complex presentation where factors may be conflicting, requiring high level analysis and interpretation skills and the comparison of a range of options to achieve effective treatment or discharge planning.
  • To develop clinically reasoned treatment, action and discharge plans and to undertake and evaluate treatment.
  • To develop the above skill set with the staff who report to you or for whom you have a responsibility to train.
