Job overview

To provide a high standard Physiotherapy service to the Peritoneal Malignancy Ward at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

To perform advanced therapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working often without direct supervision.

To supervise and support band 5 and non-registered staff. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences. Complete yearly appraisals as required.

To deputise for the Senior Therapist in operational management.

To provide supervision and teaching within the MDT and to students.

To undertake quality improvement projects to further own and team’s clinical practice.

Make recommendations to Team Lead/Service Lead for changes to practice by the team.

Assist in the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service development.

Person specification

Qualifications/training

Essential criteria
  • BSc/MSc/Grad diploma Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • HCPC registration
  • Previous orthopaedic experience
Desirable criteria
  • CSP membership
  • Additional post graduate training
  • Member of relevant specialist interest group eg. ATOCP

Experience/knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of band 5 rotations/appropriate clinical experience
  • Demonstrate effective management of own workload and autonomous practice
  • Knowledge and experience of working clinically within the NHS, with an awareness of evidence based practice
  • Evidence of undertaking relevant post graduate training/CPD including reflective practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of participating in respiratory on-call rota
  • Previous appropriate experience of being a clinical band 6
  • Evidence of researching HHFT as an employer and expressing wanting to work for the Trust
  • Experience of teaching to teams/individuals

Skills and Ability

Essential criteria
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of or demonstrate potential to lead the team in seniors absence
  • IT literate
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using certain IT programmes, eg. SWASH, EPR, Microsoft Teams

Other specific requirements

  • Holding a current driving licence
