Job overview

We are looking for an individual to join the existing Urology team and work with us in shaping the department as it enters this new era.

The post is ideally suited for someone seeking to consolidate a good experience in core urological  procedures and wishing to gain specialist training in a variety of areas of complex practice.  The Trust is a recognized high volume centre for BPH and stone treatment and a centre for focal prostate cancer therapy and nephrectomy, as well as providing the full DGH service for general benign Urology. It is likely that the successful candidate will gain several publications during this period.

Main duties of the job

This is a rotating post to provide service and training in focal prostate cancer therapy, treatment of BPH, as well as the treatment of renal cancer, high volume stone disease, general urology and an opportunity to be involved in the forthcoming robotic Urology programme.  The post holder will work across HHFT sites and acute urology on call is provided on the Winchester site on a 1 in 6 basis (no night working) as 4 and 3 long day sessions (8-8).  This is a combined HHFT acute urology service and is delivered by a dedicated Consultant of the Week.

In particular it has a national reputation for offering the latest minimally invasive treatments for a variety of conditions including prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney stones and benign prostatic enlargement.
Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow for Urology at Hampshire Hospitals NHS foundation trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013).

The post holder will work across HHFT sites and acute urology on call is provided on the Winchester site on a 1 in 6 basis (no night working) as 4 and 3 long day sessions (8-8).  This is a combined HHFT acute urology service and is delivered by a dedicated Consultant of the Week.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • FRCS or equivalent
  • Full registration with the GMC & licence to practice
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant UK experience

Skills & Ability

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience in Urology
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both elective and non elective within specialty
  • Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • 6 months experience within Urology
  • Good written and verbal communication

Other requirements

Essential criteria
  • Involvement in clinical audits
  • Completion of a significant audit that changed practice
  • Publications in refereed journals
Desirable criteria
  • Car driver with full UK license
  • Ability to manage and motivate
  • Good organisational skills
